Backstage2005 Event informed young people on education

As a part of the WorldSkills 2005 Helsinki Competition, Backstage2005 Youth Event was arranged in the Helsinki Ice Hall on 26 - 27 May. The event informed young people on education and working life.

Backstage2005 Event was hosted by Peltsi, radio reporter of YleX and TV-reporter from Booster program Iisa-Eerika. The program included a lot of humour with information inserts on vocational education displayed on video screens. Music was performed by popular Finnish bands Indica and Negative.

Hobby might turn into a profession

A great number of students from all around Finland finished their class trips in Backstage2005 Event in Helsinki Ice Hall. On their web pages Backstage2005 Event offered a program for young people to test which profession would suit them best. There was also a competition on the web pages, which offered the winners a chance to get a real backstage pass.

15 -year-old Maria Valo from Hattula secondary school came to visit WorldSkills. “It is nice that these kinds of events are organized. I got a lot of new information on education. A plus was that I could hang out with my friends and I did not have to be at school.”

Maria will continue her studies in high-school. At the moment vocational education does not interest her, but maybe in the future. “I would like to be a painter because I love art.”

The performers in the event encouraged youngsters to apply in vocational colleges. “It is good to think carefully what interests you. Hobbies are a clever way to find out the most suitable profession. I found mine through a hobby”, said Jonsu from Indica.

At the Backstage2005 a special VIP event was arranged for teachers, representatives of business life, students from Departments of Teacher Education and decision-makers from educational field in Royal Restaurant at the Helsinki Ice Hall. Matters related to work experience, carrier choices and co-operation between colleges and companies were discussed.
