1 Polymechanics / Automation Polymechanics technicians carry out technical repair and maintenance work in production plants. Professionals such as Mechanical and Maintenance Fitters may qualify for the Polymechanics category. In this skills category, using conventional machining tools, competitors produce and install spare parts for production machinery and equipment. Competitors must also demonstrate their skills in logic and automation control and the related basic electrical and circuitry work. Since automation often involves hydraulic and pneumatic components, competitors must be able to demonstrate basic understanding of these technologies. However, the most important skill will be machining and installing mechanical components. This is a new skills category which aims to give an opportunity to multi-skilled industry professionals to further develop their skills in national competitions and WorldSkills 2005.
