Exemplary management of occupational health and safety (OHS) communicates an important message about vocational skills: top skills and craftsmanship mean not only that the work is performed quickly and carefully but that it is done safely, without putting one’s own or other people’s safety or health at risk.

The aim of the seminar is to discuss how safety culture can be promoted in the field of vocational education and training and vocational skills competition. The objective is to present good examples e.g. how to facilitate occupational health and safety skills, raise safety awareness, incorporate OHS issues into vocational education and training and into the vocational skills competitions.

Osaaminen on nykypäivän keskeinen käsite. Se ei liity yksinomaan yksilöön vaan myös tiimeihin, organisaatioihin ja jopa koko yhteiskuntaan. Osaamisen perustana ovat taidot - työelämässä ammattitaidot - asiantuntijuus. Tietoyhteiskunnassa osaaminen on jatkuvasti kehittyvää, osa ammateista jopa häviää kokonaan ja uusia syntyy. Työssä ja ammatissa tarvittavien tietojen ja taitojen oppiminen ei tapahdu yksin muodollisen koulutuksen avulla vaan entistä enemmän opitaan työssä sitä samalla kehittäen (kontekstuaalinen ja kollektiivinen oppiminen).

Mitä osaamista työelämässä tarvitaan, on ollut aina ammatillisen koulutuksen keskeinen dilemma. Luennossa tarkastellaan työn ja työelämän muutoksia ja niiden vaikutuksia ammattitaitovaatimuksiin. Esimerkkeinä on myös ammattitaidon arviointiin tarkoitettuja osaamisen mittareita. Arvioinnilla voidaan kehittää työnkuvia ja nähdä tiimin vahvuudet ja ohuet alueet. Näitä arviointeja voidaan pitää myös kehittämiskeskustelujen pohjina ja osviittana koko organisaation osaamisen kehittämiselle.
