|
| |
Organiser: All five Vocational Teacher Education Colleges in
Finland
Language: English
Target group: Vocational
teachers
Chairperson/Contact: Dr Leena Kaikkonen,
leena.kaikkonen@jypoly.fi
This session highlights the Finnish vocational education system from the
point of view of vocational teachers’ skills. In order to provide high level
learning, vocational teachers are expected to be experts in their own
professional field. Additionally, they are required to be proficient pedagogues
to encourage students individually in their learning and to construct authentic
learning environments to promote growth of skilful professionals. Furthermore,
there are strong expectations for teachers to network and cooperate in diverse
levels with colleagues, work-life and other stakeholders. The session provides
some perspectives on these issues and also on vocational teacher education,

eLearning in Vocational Teacher Education
Hanne Koli, Lecturer,
Vocational Teacher Education College of Häme Polytechnic
Vocational teacher training institutes develop strategies for the educational
use of ICT. The objective is to provide all teacher students with skills in the
educational use of ICT and to raise the level of national information technology
know-how. The networking society and economy needs new ways of organising
education. A key factor is the implementation of new, interactive teaching and
study methods developing the use of eLearning in education. In an open learning
environment, learning is active and communal and utilises a variety of media.
Openness is also linked to the opportunity for networking in learning
situations, the mobility of learners, and partial independence of time and
place. Teacher education units are also developing teaching practice from the
viewpoint of eLearning and investing in the development of pedagogic innovations
in information and communication technologies.
