From Kian Ann's URL...i dont think having an internet connection should be a major problem. To get past the language issue maybe we could link some to web translations sites so that anyone that wanted to post can get their message translated from their native language to english online before posting?

I agree, the online forum sounds like a good idea. And yes, from memory the experts do have forums so why not the competitors too?

I like Viridis's idea of the main WSC group then the subsidary groups for the categories. I guess it would give a better understanding of the competition itself and the other trades (i didn't know what Mechatronics or MTC was until i got there and met all my team mates)

I also think having past competitors involved, as Ben said, is vital! We had past competitors come and talk about their experiences at our training camps and it was a huge insight. Until that moment you think that it's just going to be the same as any other competition but when you talk to the past competitors you realise it's so much more. It all helps in preparing you for the competition.

I think a Internet type forum would also be good. Its true that the countries with better Internet infrastructure would have an advantage. Maybe we can ask each of the 45 member countries if there would be issues. I personally feel that Internet access would not be too much of a issue, since these countries must have already corresponded through email in participating in the WSC. What I forsee of a challenge would be language!

This sounds like a great idea. If I right don't the experts have forums already ?

The only downside would be that only competitors with internet access would have benefits over those who don't, creating a larger gap. I don't know what I would think if I came to a competition, and all the competitors were able to communicate and learn from each other and previous competitors. What if I did not have enough money to buy internet access anywhere.

I am sure that this is no probably in western style countries, but I have no idea about middle eastern or asian countries.

I totally agree... although i would prefer if there was a somesort of yahoo groups or portal rather than a mailing list as we can not only ask questions but can also share stuff (tips and tricks) tutorials or anything that is relevant.

The can also be a main WSC group and all the trades can be subsidary groups so that in the event u have a question with for another trade we can throw it out to them. I guess something like those online Forums out there would be nice.

That is a good idea Kian Ann. If new competitors could communicate with past competitors of the same field, it could save them from making the same mistakes. They could discuss past experiences and work together to tackle new problems. We will definately have to look into this one further. Well done!
