Mechatronics in Indonesia
Festo Indonesia was proud of their involvement for the fourth times with the
Mechatronics Skills competition. Such competition is an annual event and this year is joint effort between Festo Indonesia and Atma Jaya University allowing undergraduate students to focus on the understanding and integration of the different components and technologies into modern control systems.
A joint collaboration in conducting mechatronic competition between Festo Indonesia and several national universities in Indonesia had been considered a great success for the past three events. This year, the latter was again utilized with Atma Jaya University on 15th – 20th September 2003, which was aimed to provide students with both practices and education knowledge regarding applications on control system of a particular process industry. Such competition was open to all
undergraduate students in engineering courses related to Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing and Production Program
Studies.
The competition began with an opening ceremony at Atma Jaya University where was attended by Mr. Hartono Indra (Festo General Manager), Mr. Hendra Widjana (Festo Didactic Manager), Mr. George
Malsch (Festo Didactic Regional Manager Asia Pacific), 5 Didactic Lecturers, several staffs from Atma Jaya University, invited person from educational institutes and 70 participants from 17 national universities, whom are grouped into 35 respective teams. Teams were expected to demonstrate their skills in 5 challenging stages.
Stage 1, 2 and 3
Stage 1 and 2 involved five limited sessions in which only allow up to seven respective teams per session. Each of the corresponding teams were given the task to assemble a particular circuit diagram using both pneumatic and electro pneumatic at satisfactory level. Based on the resulting performance at both stages, teams were filtered down to 15 teams and further arranged into 4 sessions for stage 3 in which to establish a simulation system with PLC. This was the stage that paid off to those teams who had put in their utmost efforts during the three stages.
