The WorldSkills Champions Trust is a volunteer group of past Competitors who are the voice of young people in the WorldSkills movement. They work to raise levels of engagement among WorldSkills Champions and promote active involvement in WorldSkills projects, initiatives and activities. Former Namibia WorldSkills competitor, Tjihimise Karaerua, is now the new representative for Africa on the WorldSkills Champions Trust

The WorldSkills Africa Champions Trust is to be launched at WorldSkills Africa Swakopmund 2022. Representatives from various African countries will serve on this body and will collectively act as an advisory group working with WorldSkills Africa.

Didactic STEM Schools Project

FESTO, a worldwide leader in automation and a world market leader in technical training and development, has joined WorldSkills Africa Swakopmund 2022 in the staging of a project aimed at engaging local schools in the area of STEM (a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines — Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics — in an interdisciplinary and applied approach).

STEM education is about making connections across more than one discipline. When opportunities to learn math and science are intertwined with the concepts of technology and engineering in an interactive environment, student interest is sparked, communication and collaboration skills are developed, and student competence is fostered.

Flag Relay

To promote WorldSkills Africa Swakopmund 2022 on a continental level and in raising public awareness, a range of mini-relays is to be staged in all participating countries, with team members carrying WSAfrica2020 Swakopmund Flag.

The relays are to be filmed and streamed on event social media platforms. Countries are also to participate in a street relay carrying their country and WorldSkills Africa2020 Swakopmund flags in the Swakopmund main street on the date before the official opening ceremony.

Watch this space for an announcement of the date of the final street relay in the streets of Swakopmund. You are more than welcome to join in!

One School One Country

“One School – One Country” is a well-established initiative by WorldSkills International. Leaning on established WorldSkills International cultural exchange model and processes, this initiative offers a unique way to interact and share. By linking up participating country teams with local schools, its goal is to encourage cultural exchange; whilst raising the profile of skills and skilled careers to youths.

All participating teams are to be paired with schools at the host town of Swakopmund, as well as at the neighboring towns of Walvis Bay and Henties Bay. Such experience provides local students with the opportunity for cultural exchange and also creates more awareness of professional skilled careers in the commercial and industrial sectors.
