luncheon was held today (23/5/03) for the Victorian competitors and judges All the competitors & judges were presented with a book and also a number of lapel badges (of the endangered Leadbeater's Possum) to swap with competitors in St Gallen. |

| Since Leadbeater's Possum was first described almost 140 years ago, it has always been regarded as rare. It was lost to science in 1909 and was not rediscovered until 1961. The entire known distribution of Leadbeater's Possum now falls almost entirely within mountain ash forests in Central Victoria. The species' range, which measures only 60 km x 80 km, lies about two hours drive from the state capital of Melbourne. This is one of the
most restricted range of any Australian marsupial and is far smaller than the distributions of most other Australian possums and gliders.
