The 5th ASEAN Skills Competition will take place in Hanoi, Vietnam from the 25th until the 27th of September 2004.

Following Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Indonesia, Vietnam is the 5th ASEAN member country to host this biannual event under the patronage of MoLISA. Altogether fourteen trade areas will be shown, whereby 150 participants will compete and be measured according to international standards.

As a premiere this time, Mechatronics will be demonstrated during the ASEAN Skills Competition. Altogether four participating countries, among Vietnam, as the host country as well as Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia, will demonstrate the essentials of Mechatronics and a Mechatronics Competition.

As for Mechatronics itself, this discipline is part of the productivity equation whereby Technology plus Skills equals Productivity. With the emergence of China as a major industrial power, ASEAN needs to be ahead and provide an environment where international and national investors can grow and one of the keys in achieving this is by providing qualified human resources.
