Boris Johnson has a go at WorldSkills London 2011

London Mayor Boris Johnson today visited WorldSkills London 2011 - and had a go at changing the tyre on a Honda motorcycle.

The Have a Go activites, designed to get the public involved and try various skills, are just one part of WorldSkills London 2011, the biggest skills Competition, jobs and careers event the UK has seen.

The WorldSkills London 2011 Competition will see almost a thousand young people battle it out to be the best of the best in a range of vocational skills, ranging from dress making and cooking to web design.

Mr Johnson, speaking at an Apprenticeships event running alongside the Competition, said:

"Only too recently weve seen the damage that can be caused to our city by those who, for whatever reason, do not have a purpose in life.

Londons young people are Londons future and it is vital that nobody is left behind and everyone has the same opportunity to learn, train or work.

That means carefully targeting this valuable investment in our city to catch those young Londoners who are at risk at the earliest opportunity.
