The WorldSkills Singapore 2004 Mechatronics competition was held from 1st to 3rd July 2004 along with 11 other trades. There were 8 teams in the final competition. They were screened from the qualifying round held in March2004. The final 8 teams are from ITE(East), Nanyang Polytechnic and Temasek Polytechnic. All the teams have demonstrated high level of skills and team work. The teams were quite close in their skill level. However jury panel has identified the best team. The best team was from Nanyang Polytechnic and they were awarded with gold medal. The second and third teams were awarded with Silver medal. There were no bronze medals awarded this time. However three teams were awarded with certificate of Diploma. The Gold medallist will represent Singapore in the WorldSkills Competition to be held in Helsinki, Finland in May2005. The jury panel had 10 members from various industries, universities and institutions. The following Modular Production System from Festo were used for the competition: Distribution, Testing, Processing, Handling and Sorting (D,T,P,H & S) stations. Competition projects were set in 5 modules as shown below : Programming of MPS (D,T,P,H & S) Troubleshooting and repair of MPS (D,T,P,H & S) Modification of MPS Station (H) Modification and Integration of MPS (T & S) Re-assembly and Reprogramming of MPS (D,T,H,P & S) The closing ceremony was held on 8th July and Medals were awarded by the Acting Minister for Education Mr. Tharman Shanmugaratnam. The event was attended by number of key personal from Industries and Institutions. Mr. Georg Malsch, Manager Sales Asia Pacific, Festo Dadactic was one among them along with Mr. Gary Chan, Didactic Manager, Festo Singapore.
