Calgary Firsts
WorldSkills Calgary 2009 will be the first international WorldSkills Competition to accomplish many feats, including:
1. First dedicated English language Education Program with identified Teacher Champions in every school in the city.
2. First WorldSkills Competition Skills Road Show, an interactive truck and trailer visiting communities throughout Alberta.
3. First comprehensive hands-on interactive Try-A-Skill/Try-A-Trade® program across the majority of skill categories.
4. First Ambassador Kiosk initiative, including Skill Ambassadors to engage spectators.
5. First welcome/orientation structures (Launch Pads) to explain the site layout to all visitors.
6. First Single Site Competitors' Village, where all Competitors share the same high quality accommodation.
7. First Competition to offer comprehensive recreation facilities to all Competitors at the Competitors' Village.
8. First national television marketing on 1,000 screens in office towers, arenas, and food courts across the country.
9. First placement of the WorldSkills logo in professional sports arenas, with national TV broadcasts.
10. First Competition to focus on a sustainable/environmental design and to conduct an environmental audit .
11. First Competitor and Family Brunch at the Competitor's Village, offering families a chance to connect and meet their team.
12. First integrated six day Competition Schedule.
13. First coordinated presentation of Daily Reports.
14. First WorldSkills Competition to have a Farewell Event to present all Competitors to the public and the media.
15. First time the daily "Happy Hour" is programmed as part of the Global Skills Village (now called "Industry Nights") to offer Delegates, Experts, exhibitors and sponsors a chance to network.
16. First aggressive WorldSkills Competition branding program which includes clothing, promotional items and signage prior to the event.
17. First WorldSkills online volunteer registration program and online uniform order and distribution program.
18. First WorldSkills online store with merchandise available prior to the event, co-branded merchandise available for sponsors, online secure payment and shipping available world-wide.
19. First WorldSkills Competition to have a dedicated YouTube Channel.
20. First WorldSkills Competition to have a dedicated Facebook and Twitter presence.
21. First WorldSkills property on Second Life, the WSC2009 property that will be a replica of the Stampede Park venue and will serve an international market.
22. First integrated sponsorship program with shared cultivation, research and information between WorldSkills Calgary 2009, WorldSkills International and WorldSkills London 2011.
23. First time that one hundred professionally produced digital vignettes are captured and edited with international same-day distribution on WorldSkills TV.
24. The CUTEST Mascots in the history of WorldSkills.
