Ceremonies
The Ceremonies will focus on the culture and passion embodied by over 900 world-class Competitors and 3,500 Delegates, judges and Experts from 51 Member countries/regions at WorldSkills Calgary 2009. These will also be opportunities for Canada to showcase local talent and to welcome and thank all visitors.
Opening Ceremony
The Opening Ceremony was at the Stampede Grandstand on September 1, pumping up Competitors and their supporters, and offering a glimpse of the week ahead. There were speeches from WorldSkills Calgary 2009, WorldSkills International and government leaders. This event featured the Parade of Competitors, a wide variety of entertainment displaying the diversity of Canadian culture, ending with an impressive fireworks display.

Closing Ceremony
The Corral at Stampede Park will be the site for the Closing Ceremony on September 6, where WorldSkills Champions in each of the 45 skill categories will receive awards and medals. As this is the official closing of the 40th WorldSkills Competition, the WorldSkills International flag will be passed from WorldSkills Calgary 2009 to the next Competition Host, WorldSkills London 2011.
The Opening and Closing Ceremonies are ticketed events.
