"If you're going to do something, do it right the first time." These are words Mike Holmes heard time and again as he apprenticed under his father, and he has since taken as his motto in his mission to Make It Right.

"I am very pleased to partner with WorldSkills Calgary 2009," remarked Holmes. "If you're going to do something, do it right the first time. My motto is 'Make it Right,' which matches very nicely with the mission and values of WorldSkills Calgary 2009."

The Calgary Stampede chose Mike Holmes to lead the Stampede Parade on behalf of WorldSkills Calgary 2009. He took his role as Parade Marshal to a new level, perpetrating a global skills movement that will continue at the WorldSkills Competition in Calgary September 1-7.

In his role as Honorary Spokesperson for WorldSkills Calgary 2009, Holmes will appear in television public service announcements and print promotional materials, as well as attend the Competition.

From plumbing and electrical to carpentry, Holmes was trained in the right way to tackle any home improvement task. Holmes understands the best practices of the building trade and has a unique perspective from which to share his knowledge with the public. Like his late father before him, Holmes is a craftsman with integrity, who knows the importance of resourcefulness and craftsmanship. Thanks to strong supporters in both broadcast and building industries, the award-winning Holmes on Homes™ show that airs on HGTV has just wrapped its seventh and final season.

Holmes' knowledge, professionalism and honesty combined with his dedicated crew brought a high level of credibility to his show. On April 26, 2006, Holmes launched the Holmes Foundation, a charitable organization with two important goals: to assist Canadians who need help to get their homes and lives back after botched renovations and secondly, to support youth training in the skilled trades, through apprenticeships, scholarships and bursaries.

His book, Make It Right-Inside Home Renovation with Canada's Most Trusted Contractor, is a national bestseller. Holmes is often invited to speak by professional organizations, such as the Canadian Safety Association of Ontario, the Ontario Building Inspectors Association and the Canadian Association of Home Inspectors. He has also appeared four times on the internationally-syndicated Ellen DeGeneres Show.

On October 30, 2006 Mike was recognized in the House of Commons as an "extraordinary craftsperson" and "an accomplished master builder with a social conscience." Holmes on Holmes has been the #1 ranked show on HGTV Canada since the summer of 2004, and also airs in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa.

Holmes is currently filming the new series Holmes Inspection that will premiere on HGTV this fall. He lives outside Toronto, ON and is the father of Amanda, Sherry and Mike Jr. - who are proudly following in their father's footsteps in the home renovation business.
