Venue Description

The competition venue for WorldSkills 2009 is Stampede Park - home to the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth, the annual Calgary Stampede. Stampede Park combines ample physical and logistical capacity with ease of access and a high degree of security. This multi-purpose venue, situated on 193 acres, offers 75,000 square meters of competition space and state-of-the-art technical maintenance and support services.

Stampede Park borders the beautiful Elbow River and is within five blocks' walking distance from the city's downtown core. Stampede Park provides on-site parking and is just minutes from downtown on the LRT.

Stampede Park hosts 1,300 events per year and has a history of hosting many world-class events. In June 2008, the Global Petroleum Show, the world's largest oil and gas event, hosted 60,000 people from 85 countries. Rotary International, with 26,000 delegates from more than 50 countries, held its international convention at Stampede Park in 1996. The 1988 Winter Olympics also held events at Stampede Park with tremendous success. Of course, the pinnacle of Calgary events is the annual Calgary Stampede, which draws over 1.2 million people over 10 days each summer.

Stampede Park has superior logistical capabilities and the venue's on-site technical staff will ensure that all utility and technical issues are addressed swiftly and professionally. The venue also offers a variety of in-house services, including security, parking, electrical, staging, bleacher seating, audio-visual, a business centre, concierge service, as well as medical service. The competition venue's substantial, diverse menu will address the nutritional, cultural and religious needs of all competitors and delegates.
