Showcase

Over 75 Colleges and Training Organisations will Showcase some of their outstanding talent at WorldSkills London 2011 both inside and outside of ExCeL London.

All Showcases are student led. These will be delivered by ordinary young people, from all different parts of the United Kingdom, and we hope that they strike a chord with visitors and complement the overall visitor experience.

The Performance Stage

Over 30 performances are taking place across four days, including street dance, drama, choirs and catwalk shows… come along to cheer on your favourite act!

Art Gallery

Around 20 Colleges and Training Providers are providing art work to display in the art gallery.  Look out for work inspired by the Olympic Games, local parts of the UK and more!

Display Areas

You will see all sorts of skills being Showcased in display areas across the venue, including car wrapping, boat building, yurt building, a sustainable garden and an internationally themed floristry display.

Student Media Crews

Media students will be capturing footage and showcasing the live editing process.  Maybe you will be interviewed whilst discovering a new skill!

Science Technology Engineering & Maths Zone

Come and see a live crime scene being investigated, a giant interactive touch screen, aircraft engineering in action, iron and metal work demonstrations.  Try not to get lost in Second Life…

Heritage Stage

Students will showcase heritage techniques from different regions in the United Kingdom. Find out how ornate sculptures are made from sand and lime, take the chair challenge, and see a traditional wall being built from rocks and stone.

Cookery Showcase Kitchen

Students will showcase cookery techniques related to their part of the UK or in specialist areas of the food and beverage industry. See how chocolate is produced, take a cocktail master class, and find out how sushi and pasta are made.  

Hair & Beauty Stage

Demonstrations of hair styling, make up and body art application will be taking place.   These are inspired by British historical figures, the London 2012 Olympic Games, Lady Gaga and more....

The Eco House

The Eco House project is a group venture being delivered by a consortium of college construction departments. Apprentices from the industry will be constructing the house outside the entrance of ExCeL London.  Visitors will be able to view the house as part of their visit and find out more about careers in construction and green technology.

Aims of the Showcase programme

Showcase aims to inspire school age visitors to take up further education, and make them aware of the breadth of courses available We want to encourage visitors to Have a Go, seek careers advice, talk to sponsors and employers about a profession as a result of seeing the Showcase Showcase is the perfect complement the skills competitions and will highlight to visiting countries the wealth of further education available in this country.
