Carpentry

Carpenters are a vital part of the construction industry and work with wood on building projects or in workshops.

They cut, fit and assemble wood for building frameworks, doors, windows, flooring, stairs and panelling amongst other things on both commercial and residential projects.

Carpenters are one of the most likely sectors within the construction industry to be self employed.

It is a skilled job requiring attention to detail and patience, often involving larger, more structural projects than cabinetmaking and joinery.

Some monumental wood buildings from the 7th century still stand in Japan, a country renowned for its beautiful carpentry.
