Car Painting

Car painters specialise in painting car surfaces and panels and repairing the car's appearance after accidents or corrosion.

Car painters are skilled workers who understand paint, finishes, metal and rust. They remove, prepare, paint and replace vehicle surfaces that need their treatment and use tools such as sanders, fillers, primers and rustproofing chemicals.

They can also touch up paintwork to disguise small imperfections and work with plastic and fibreglass that are sometimes used in vehicle bodies.

Car painting is a specialism that requires creativity, knowledge and awareness of health and safety due to the chemicals used.

Fast Facts

The first automobile, the Benz Patent-Motorwagen, was not painted. Karl Benz had the metal parts protected against corrosion with a kind of common black pitch.
