Restaurant service is the set of standards that front of house staff should adhere to when welcoming and serving customers.

Eating out is extremely popular and although the food is a huge part of the experience, the service received is just as important and can often determine whether customers return. Front of house staff in restaurants should be knowledgeable about the correct ways to serve food and drinks, mixing drinks, serving wine, folding napkins and preparing food, for example carving, in front of a customer when required.

These standards vary in detail according to the type of restaurant, but the principles of competency, politeness and quality do not alter and should be delivered by all skilled restaurant workers.
