WorldSkills London 2011
On May 10, 2006, WorldSkills International announced that London, UK has won the bid to host the 41st WorldSkills Competition in 2011. The UK fought a six month campaign to host the event. In January 2006, a panel of WorldSkills International Board of Directors visited London to assess it's suitability for hosting the event - and gave UK Skills the green light to put forward the UK bid for consideration by the WorldSkills International Board of Directors in March. On the May 10, presentations by all three candidate cities (London, Gothernberg and Melbourne) were followed by a vote by WorldSkills Member countries/regions at the General Assembly in Melbourne, Australia.
The 41st WorldSkills Competition will take place in London from October 6 - 9, 2011. The Competition will be held in ExCeL London, one of the main venues for the London Olympic and Paralympic Games.
UK Skills, the British Member Organization of WorldSkills International, put forward London's bid to host the 41st WorldSkills Competition in 2011. UK Skills is an independent organization which champions skills and learning for work through competitions, awards, and events. The organization was established in 1990 with the primary purpose of raising skill levels in the UK through skills competitions and managing the UK team which competes in the WorldSkills Competition.
There has been strong support for the UK bid from the Government, the Mayor of London, business and individuals.
