Sheet Metal Technology

Sheet Metal Technologists produce complex 2 and 3D items for the Food/ Beverage (stainless steel kitchens); transport (truck bodies, railways, aircraft maintenance); Chemical/Pharmaceutical (pressure vessels, pipelines); construction (heating and ventilation, roof work, insulating and cladding) and general engineering applications from sheet, plate sectional and composite materials.

The Sheet Metal Technologist is often required to use computer design and drafting software to develop patterns and programmes and then fabricate products utilizing CNC controlled Punching, Laser/Plasma, waterjet cutting systems and CNC bending equipment combined with hand forming and finishing processes.  Using appropriate welding, joining and mechanical fastening techniques, the modern Sheet Metal Technologist is able to select and apply them to a wide range of applications.
