NamPower invests in TVET
On Monday, 14 March 2022, NamPower announced that it had sponsored two hundred and fifty thousand Namibian Dollars toward the staging of the WorldSkills Africa Swakopmund 2022 Skills Competition, scheduled to take place at Swakopmund, from Monday, 28 March to Saturday, 2 April 2022.
NamPower Chief Operating Officer, Fritz Jacobs said the benefits to Namibia for hosting WorldSkills Africa are far-reaching and promote economic growth to our economy and added to this the transformational impact on competitors’ lives.
Jacobs added that the future functioning and success of a country lie in TVET. Highlighting that the need for electricians, plumbers, mechanics, technicians, roads or building construction is what keeps the Infrastructure of a country running. The young people competing at this event are the leading experts of tomorrow, which makes it all the more important to allow them to succeed.
The Namibia Training Authority’s (NTA) Acting Chief Executive Officer, Muvatera Ndjoze-Siririka, said that he was delighted to announce NamPower, as a bronze sponsor of this event. NamPower’s value-in-kind and cash sponsorship totals N$250 000 (Two Hundred and Fifty Thousand) Namibia dollars and covers a broad spectrum of specialised training, simulation configuration and support towards the event.
The idea to celebrate Vocational Training Competitions can be rightfully compared to Pierre de Coubertin´s initiative to create the modern Olympic Games.
Ndjoze-Siririka added that in this unprecedented time of COVID-19, the support of NamPower makes it possible for Namibia to stage an event that will be one to be remembered. “Thank you for powering skills and powering the Nation. Your investment is indeed an investment in our most important natural resource – our people,” said Ndjoze-Siririka.
Namibia joined International WorldSkills in 2011 through NTA and Ministry of Higher Education. NamPower’s involvement also began in 2011 with provision for expertise in Electrical Installation at the WorldSkills Competition in 2011 held in the UK.
NamPower Trainees have since 2015 qualified to compete in the International Worldskills Competition. In 2015 a NamPower Trainee, Fanuel Matias represented Namibia and competed on a global level in Brazil and in 2017, Bruno Karaerua represented Namibia in Abu Dhabi.
This year Namibia hosts the African showpiece, which is staged for only the second time on our great continent. We certainly wait in great anticipation to see our young artisans win and represent our country and continent at the WorldSkills International Competition taking place in Shanghai, China in October of this year.
