THE MIDWEST

The variation of flora and fauna of the Pantanal, considered a World Natural Heritage site by UNESCO, makes the Midwest a haven for lovers of ecotourism and adventure tourism. In this ecological sanctuary, which covers the states of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul, native species can be observed in their natural habitat. Animals such as jaguars, toucans, capybaras, anteaters, caiman and over 260 species of fish live in the region.

Parks and ecological reserves of these states offer tours by natural waterfalls and aquariums, besides trails between rock formations, caves and mountains. Among the main attractions are the Chapada dos Guimarães and Serra da Bodoquena. The state of Goiás also features grandiose complexes of nature conservation, such as Chapada dos Veadeiros and Serra da Mesa.

In the centre of the region is the Brazilian capital, Brasília (DF), Historical and Cultural Heritage of Humanity acclaimed worldwide for its architectural and urban planning. The city is an open-air museum with monumental buildings designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer and decorative works by artists like Athos Bulcão, Bruno Giorgi, Mariane Peretti, Burle Marx and Alfredo Cerchiatti.
