The South
Comprised of historic cities, a result of the mix of cultures of immigrants who arrived in the country during the 19th century, the region has cities that even today preserve customs of countries like Italy and Germany. The weight of tradition is evident in cities like Blumenau (SC), where half-timbered houses rescue traces of German architecture. The city annually reproduces Oktoberfest, a traditional German beer festival originally celebrated in Munich.
During the winter, the Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul mountains attract tourists who enjoy the strong temperature drop, while summer brings visitors to the beaches of Florianópolis (SC), Balneário Camboriú (SC) and Paquetá (RS). The region also houses the Cataratas do Iguaçu (Iguaçu Falls), a Natural Heritage of Humanity consisting of 275 waterfalls located in the state of Paraná.
Among the traditional festivals and cultural customs, there is the tradition of preparing exuberant barbecues, with cuts from cattle raised in the Pampas. The region is also home to the main wineries in the country, offering trips through the wine areas with tasting and strong gastronomic appeal.
