How do you prepare for the WorldSkills Competition, are there any special training methods?

Technically we prepare competitors by assigning a mentor and coach to them and give them as many opportunities for practicing as possible. Some of them are exposed to other skills competitions within their organizing framework. We do try to have at least two team development activities and regular expert meeting sessions to ensure that everyone is ready.

Are there any skills that require special training or preparation to compete at the international level?

All skills require special training as the scope of the learners field very seldom covers all aspects, equipment and technologies used.

What are some of the challenges that you have to deal with during the training, preparation and Competition?

The synchronizing of logistics because competitors and experts may be located in different geographic provinces (regions) in South Africa. Sourcing some of the products and materials can be problematic.

How do you anticipate that your Competitors will do at the WorldSkills Competition in terms of medals and placement?

We hope to gain medals of excellence in at least 3 skills areas and a bronze medal in at least one skill.
